
New Executives Appointed at RWJ Hamilton

HAMILTON, NEW JERSEY - Two executives have been appointed to new senior leadership positions at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton (RWJ Hamilton). Barbara Smith is Chief Operating Officer and Michael Long, PT, MS, FABC, is now vice president of strategic planning and business development.
As senior vice president and chief operating officer, Barbara Smith leads the development of high quality, efficient programs in the hospital. She provides leadership and oversight for all hospital operations including laboratory and radiology, patient management and clinical areas such as oncology, women’s health and surgical services. Prior to joining RWJ Hamilton, Smith served as president of insurance and risk services for the Robert Wood Johnson Health Network. In that role, she was responsible for the risk management program by establishing standardized processes for affiliated hospitals, recommending cost saving strategies and overseeing the coordination of the insurance program for two affiliated hospitals.
Smith earned her MBA from City University of New York and a BS in business administration from Temple University. She is currently an adjunct professor at Camden County Community College and has her New Jersey Resident Insurance Producer License in health and property/casualty. Smith resides in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
Michael Long is responsible for developing plans and evaluating and implementing new business opportunities. During his 11 years at RWJ Hamilton, he served as director of rehabilitation services and most recently as executive director of ambulatory care. Long’s accomplishments include the development of the RWJ Hamilton Center for Health & Wellness, outpatient facilities in Ewing and Columbus, and a comprehensive balance center; and the acquisition of a diabetes and endocrinology medical practice, and has began an ambulatory surgery center.
A resident of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, Long earned his MBA from LaSalle University and BS in physical therapy from Thomas Jefferson University. He served on the Fellowship Advisory Board – a two year leadership program for healthcare managers – and was named manager of the year at RWJ Hamilton in 1999. He has been a volunteer for the RWJ Hamilton Foundation Golf Committee and led RWJ Hamilton’s participation in the American Heart Association walk.
