Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton Makes Three Senior Management Appointments

HAMILTON, NEW JERSEY – Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton has named three people to senior management positions.

Dr. Francisco Javier Villota, Vice President of Medical Affairs
Dr. Francisco Javier Villota of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, has been named Vice President of Medical Affairs. In this role, he will work closely with the medical staff and hospital team to continually enhance clinical excellence, patient safety and appropriate utilization of resources. Dr. Villota joined RWJ Hamilton last year as physician advisor.

In addition to serving patients in the hospital's internal medicine clinic and its Occupational and Corporate Health department, he has been working with physicians and hospital staff to refine and continually improve quality and efficiency.

Dr. Villota earned his Bachelor's degree at the College of Bachilleres #3 and his Doctor of Medicine at Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua, School of Medicine; both schools are in Chihuahua, Mexico. He continued his graduate education in internal medicine at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and through Seton Hall University at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton.

His teaching and management experience includes several years as the Associate Program Director for Seton Hall’s internal medicine program at St. Francis. He was clinical instructor for visiting medical students from St. George University studying at St. Francis as well as at the university’s campus in Grenada. Dr. Villota has also volunteered his services with World Missions in Guatemala as part of a New Jersey medical team.

Paul Pernice, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Paul Pernice, CPA, of Gibbsboro, New Jersey, has been appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Pernice joined RWJ Hamilton in February 2006 as Executive Director of Finance and then became Vice President of Finance.

In his new role he will oversee the finance department, patient accounting, information technology, operations improvement, materials management and the captive insurance program.

Prior to joining RWJ Hamilton, he served in various finance and operations leadership positions for Virtua Health System in Marlton, New Jersey, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and Memorial Health Alliance in Mount Holly, New Jersey. Pernice received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

He is a Certified Public Accountant in New Jersey, a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a certified Six Sigma coach and Black Belt – a verification of competency in quality management.

Mike Long, Executive Director of Ambulatory Care
Mike Long of Mount Laurel, New Jersey has been named Executive Director of Ambulatory Care. Long joined RWJ Hamilton in 1997 as Director of Rehabilitation Services. In his new role, he will oversee the RWJ Hamilton Center for Health & Wellness, the Occupational and Corporate Health and Rehabilitation Services departments, the SleepCare Center, the Cardiac Rehabilitation department including the External Counter Pulsation (ECP) program for patients with coronary artery disease, and outpatient clinics.

Under Long's leadership, the Rehabilitation Services department has achieved high employee and patient satisfaction, positive patient outcomes and solid financial performance, all while treating an ever-increasing number of patients.

Long received a Bachelor of Science degree from Thomas Jefferson University and a Master of Science degree from Temple University, both in Philadelphia. He earned a Master’s in Business Administration degree from LaSalle University, also in Philadelphia.
